10th Annual Meeting of Tibetan Settlement Officers Underway

DHARAMSHALA: The Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration today commenced its tenth annual meeting of Tibetan settlement officers at the Tibetan Reception Centre in Dharamshala. Over 44 settlement officers across India, Nepal and Bhutan are participating in the four-day meeting cum workshop.

The inaugural function was presided by Home Kalon Dolma Gyari and Mr. Tempa Tsering, Representative at Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama based in New Delhi, as a special guest along with Education Kalon Mr. Ngodup Tsering and Health Kalon Dr. Tsering Wangchuk. Secretaries and Additional Secretaries of various departments of CTA also attendeed the event.

Expressing her deep sadness over the recent self-immolation in Tibet, Home Kalon Dolma Gyari said that since 2009 over 141 Tibetans have burnt themselves alive as a sign of frustration at the injustice happening inside Tibet. She also called on commitments and hard works from all the settlement officers concerning with the urgency of the deteriorating situation in Tibet.

"The Tibetans in exile must work in unison to channelize all the works and aspiration entrusted on us by the Tibetans in Tibet who can not do anything under the repressive rule of Chinese government," she added. She also reiterated that the Tibetan struggle could never fail if we follow the path envisaged by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who have suggested a few with a holistic view.

Home Kalon also focused on the essence of both the central and regional governance for an overall success of the CTA. She said that both the central and regional administration must complement each other to have a better overall administration.

Mr. Tempa Tsering, Representative of the Office of Tibet, New Delhi, said that Tibet being a democratic country concerns the well being of the Tibetan populace. Thus, the settlement officers as the representatives of the Tibetan settlements share great responsibilities. Pleading the settlement officers he said, "The settlement officers must lead the Tibetans for a better future and must create awareness on the Tibetan polity among the people and build friendship with Indian support groups."

The meeting will discuss to enhance and evaluate the resolutions passed in the previous annual meeting.
