DHARAMSHALA: A meeting on Smart City Sustainable Development and Waste Development & Management was held at Community Hall of Tibetan Settlement Office, Mcleod Ganj, Dharamshala on 6 September.
The meeting was held in the presence of Shri J M Pathania, the Commissioner, Shri Rahul Dubey the Executive Engineer, Shri J K the Sanitation in-charge of Municipal Corporation, Dharamshala and Mrs Karma Dolma, Under Secretary, Tibetan Settlement Office, Dharamshala.
Mrs Karma Dolma gave the welcome speech to the MCD officials on behalf of Clean Upper Dharamshala Programme workers and introductory speech on the sanitation of Upper Dharamshala.
During the meeting, the problems and challenges that CUDP used to face during the sanitation operation was raised, especially, on the renewal of the Sanitation Agreement, equipment for the sweepers and releasing of tender amount on time which normally delays four to five months of time.
The Commissioner started the meeting by saying for a SMART CITY one needs to be smart and for that smart thinking is a must. So it is very important to motivate one’s mind on environment and that it is everybody’s responsibility to cooperate with the SMART CITY’s vision. And that we may even visit each and every household to motivate our people and make them responsible to think that they are responsible and in such a way we can create awareness of on sanitation.
The Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation has very kindly agreed to facilitate the sweepers’ welfare under the Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Awaaz Yojna by providing them with medical, training, residential etc… And the Municipal Corporation will render necessary assistance in raising the tender amount.
He further asked the Environment Desk under Tibetan Settlement Office to submit a proposal on hotspot areas to solve the immediate garbage problem and accordingly the MCD will provide us with extra manpower, vehicle and equipment.
The next meeting will be held on 12 September 2016 where the Hotel Association, Shop Association and Vendor Association will be involved to raise awareness and discuss on the ongoing garbage problems.
