Sikyong Inaugurates 11th Tibetan Settlement Officers Meeting cum Workshop.

DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay inaugurated the 11th annual Tibetan Settlement Officers Meeting cum Workshop at Nyatri hall, Gangchen Kyishong earlier today. Over 43 settlement officers across India, Nepal and Bhutan are participating in the four-day meeting cum workshop.

The inaugural function was also presided by Kalon of Department of Religion and Culture Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, Home Kalon Mr Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang, Education Kalon Mr Ngodup Tsering, Health Kalon Mr Choekyong Wangchuk, Acting Secretary Mr Chemi Rigzin of Department of Home, along with Additional Secretaries and staff of the home department.

In his inaugural address, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay briefly outlined the five-fifty strategy and the three core principles of the 15th Kashag: Unity; Innovation and Self reliance. “In the next five years, we must put maximum efforts in achieving genuine autonomy for all Tibetans based on the Middle Way Approach. However, we must also strategise to strengthen and sustain the Tibetan movement for the next fifty years,” he explained.

Welcoming an effective and productive discussion ahead, Sikyong said, “One of the key agenda of the 15th Kashag is to improve the over all public health and uplift the poorer section of the Tibetan community. However, we can only realise these goals by mobilising and coordinating our efforts in these areas of focus. As we begin the deliberations on strengthening our community in terms of public health, education and welfare, I welcome inspiring ideas and productive discussion over the following days.”

Home Kalon Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang stated that the four-day meeting will focus on strengthening the five-fifty strategy, proposed by the 15th Kashag, and discuss initiatives to sustain Tibetan community in exile; formulation of an all-round sustainable development projects; registration and acquisition of official status for the Tibetan settlements at its respective district administration; establishment of a complete database information system for Central Tibetan Administration and its office and promotion of Tibetan art and culture through micro-commerce projects.

Over 43 Tibetan Settlement Officers across India, Nepal and Bhutan participating in the four-day meeting cum workshop.

The annual meeting cum workshop commenced with a leadership training session chaired by Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay. Sikyong discussed the changing roles of a leader in the 21st century and encouraged the officers to harness the skills and attributes of a creative, assertive and an activist leader.

In the later session, Chief Planning Officer Dr Kunchok Tsundue delivered a detailed presentation on Work Force Information System and Integrated Settlement Developmental Plan.

The 11th annual Tibetan Settlement Officers Meeting will be held from 17 – 20 October. The settlement officers will also meet for the 6th annual General Body Meeting of Central Tibetan Relief Committee on the final day of the workshop.
