Dharamshala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning announced that the nationwide lockdown to contain COVID-19 will be extended till May 3, which has so far claimed 339 lives in the country and left over 10,000 infected.
PM Modi said that India will remain under strictly ensured lockdown in the coming days to contain the further spread of the virus. In addition, over the next few weeks by April 20, a nationwide inspection will be conducted and hotspots in every state will be carefully monitored. Depending on how successfully hotspots have been contained, conditional relaxation on restriction will be considered.
He also included that those found violating the guidelines in their areas will be put under stricter lockdown.
PM applauded the citizens of the country for their support and cooperation so far in maintaining the discipline.
“It may not be correct to compare our efforts with other nations, but India is better positioned than many developed nations, he says. In several countries, the fatality rate and the number of cases is much higher than India”, says PM Modi.
This is PM Modi’s third public address on the COVID-19.
